Cerena Childress ♦ Speaker, Garden Tour Leader Resume!
Let me inspire you, your group, while sharing useful gardening tips!
I would love to be one of your speakers! I have two 10×20 plots at Pilgrim Terrace Community Garden in Santa Barbara CA on Modoc near Mission. It is one of the three SB Community Gardens – Yananoli and Rancheria being the other two. I have represented the Community Gardens at events and on TV interviews. Starting when I was a student Master Gardener, I have spoken to their classes each year, speaking on small plot gardening strategies, leading community garden tours. I have spoken for the Santa Barbara Organic Garden Club on the importance of Community Gardens, to Santa Barbara Neighborhood Exchanges on Container Gardening and Garden Gifts & Crafts, at the Seed Swaps on Seed Saving, La Sumida Nursery.
All this translates to the importance of urban pocket gardens in any home landscape, and how to convert to Food Not Lawns! The main goal of my Master Gardener class project, Greenhouses, was to impress the idea of cutting those 1500 average food miles it takes to get our food to market. Conservation, cut global warming, while having the freshest, most nutritious, organic food on the table for our family and loved ones!
4.7.11 Today I was asked to co-lead a garden book club. Instead I offered a list of topics I would love to speak to them about! Here ’tis:
Books I do happen to own and could talk about are:
Southern California Gardening – Welsh (THE guide)
Gaia’s Garden – Hemenway (my favorite)
California Master Gardener Handbook – ton of topics all researched
How to Grow More Vegetables – Jeavons
Bountiful Container – Mc Gee & Stuckey (awesome on container gardening)
I have a beautiful PowerPoint presentation, or can just talk.
Edible Landscaping – Creasy
Designing & Maintaining Your Edible Landscape Naturally – Kourik
Lasagna Gardening/Sheet Composting – I don’t own this book, but can speak to the topic
I raise worms for castings, and could bring some worms, along with castings and their eggs
Community Gardens – I’ve been at Pilgrim Terrace Community Garden since 2002, can talk about the experience and importance of community gardens
Greenhouses – was my Master Gardener class project, detailed PowerPoint presentation
Seeds – soaking, presprouting per various types of veggies
Garden maintenance – feeding, what to do about diseases and pests both prevention and cures, providing habitat for beneficials
From Your Own Garden - PowerPoint presentation on garden gifts and crafts
All About Tomatoes
What Veggies to Plant Now (by the Month)
How to Grow More Delicious Edibles Per Square Foot Than You Ever Thought Possible!
10 Space Saving Strategies
13 Practices for Higher Yields
These are a few things I can do anytime. I can send the From Your Own Garden PowerPoint if you would like to see what one of my presentations would be like.
Blessed be, and Happy Planting!
